Amaranthaceae

Alternanthera philoxeroides

The pigweed family which is comprised of various trees, vines and herbs, which are found mainly in the favourable climates of Africa and the Americas. The genus Amaranthus of this family includes several species of common weeds (the Amaranths ), which are characterized by a red pigmentation of the stems and leaves. Examples include the green amaranth ( A. retroflexus ), the various tumbleweeds and pigweed. [ 1 ]
